Castlerea’s Aoife O’Rourke will step into the ring this evening (Saturday, September 6th) at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool.
Aoife, competing in the 75kg division, received a bye in the opening round and is now through to the Last 16, where she’ll take on Monika Langerova of the Czech Republic. The evening session begins at 6pm, with Aoife scheduled for bout 7.
Earlier this year, Aoife and her sister Lisa secured silver medals for Ireland at the IBA Women’s World Championships in Serbia. This week, Aoife also carries the honour of serving as co-captain of Team Ireland, alongside Adam Hession from Monivea Boxing Club.
The 2025 World Boxing Championships are historic, featuring over 550 boxers from more than 65 countries, and marking the first time men and women compete together at the same Elite championships outside of the Olympics.
