Castlerea is set to sparkle this December with a fantastic programme of festive events for all ages. From light switch-ons and family fun days to artisan fairs, festive films, music, parkrun celebrations and our famous Tractor Parade – there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Here’s your full guide to Christmas in Castlerea 2025:
⭐ Friday, 5th December – Switching on the Town Christmas Lights
6pm • The Square, Castlerea • FREE EVENT
Kick off the festive season with one of Castlerea’s favourite annual traditions! Join us on The Square as Santa Claus officially switches on the town’s Christmas lights. Enjoy hot chocolate, sweet treats and plenty of Christmas magic. A wonderful community evening for all ages.
⭐ Saturday, 6th December – Christmas Family Fun Day
11am–1pm • Trinity Arts Centre • FREE EVENT
A brilliant festive morning for families! Expect children’s entertainment, crafts, a gaming van, Christmas activities and Santa in his grotto. Fun for every age group and fully free to attend.
⭐ Sunday, 7th December – Christmas Craft & Food Fair
10am–4pm • The Hub • FREE ENTRY
One of the biggest Christmas fairs in the West of Ireland. With over 70 stalls, artisan food, crafts, unique gifts, hot food and barista coffee—this indoor fair is the perfect chance to pick up something special and support local makers and producers. Free entry and loads of parking.
⭐ Saturday, 13th December – Custard Pie Puppets: Christmas Crackers
1pm • O’Rourke GAA Centre • €5 per child
The beloved Custard Pie Puppets return with a festive, fun-filled show for kids. Booking essential on Eventbrite.
⭐ Saturday, 13th December – Joyous Refrains Christmas Concert
7pm • Trinity Arts Centre • €10
Enjoy a beautiful evening of seasonal music with the Castlerea Community Choir under the direction of Kathy Fahey. Book at 087 402 7175.
⭐ Sunday, 14th December – Illuminated Tractor Parade
5pm • From Castlerea Mart • FREE EVENT
Castlerea Agricultural Show presents a magical night of illuminated tractors lighting up the town streets.
Registration: 4pm
Kids’ Tractor Parade: 4:30pm
Main Parade: 5pm
Santa will meet families afterwards.
All proceeds from the bucket collection go to St. Michael’s School, Castlerea.

⭐ Saturday, 20th December – Festive Parkrun
9.30am • Castlerea Demesne • FREE EVENT
Wear your festive jumpers, hats or tinsel and join Castlerea Parkrun for a fun, friendly 5km run, jog or walk. Afterwards, head to d’Gaff for refreshments.
⭐ Saturday, 20th December – Family Christmas Movie: The Christmas Chronicles
3pm • The Hub • €5 per child
A perfect festive family afternoon with this much-loved Christmas film.
⭐ Thursday, 26th December – St. Stephen’s Day St. Kevin’s 5km Run/Walk
12 noon • O’Rourke GAA Centre
€10 adults / €5 children. Proceeds go to Parkinson’s Ireland Roscommon. Register on the day or via ClubForce.
⭐ Sunday, 28th December – Family Christmas Movie: The Grinch
3pm • The Hub • €5 per child
A cosy family movie afternoon during the holidays.
⭐ Sunday, 28th December – Adult Cinema Night: Downton Abbey – The Grand Finale

A lovely festive evening for adults with the elegant final chapter of the Downton Abbey story.
⭐ Sunday, 28th December – Festive Trad Music Session
8pm–late • Mulvihills Bar
A night of traditional Irish music, festive cheer and great craic!
