The Roscommon Drug & Alcohol Family Support Service is encouraging families across County Roscommon to reach out if they are being affected by a loved one’s drug or alcohol use.
Based in the South Roscommon Family Resource Centre, the service provides free and confidential support to family members in a safe, non-judgemental environment. Since opening in June 2023, the service has supported numerous families across Roscommon and Galway through one-to-one support and a range of evidence-based programmes.
The service recognises that substance misuse affects not only the individual but also parents, partners, children, siblings and extended family members. Support is available regardless of whether the person using substances is currently seeking help themselves.
Services available include:
• One-to-one confidential support
• Information on drugs, alcohol and their impact on families
• Family support programmes including the 5-Step Method, CRAFT and Non-Violent Resistance Training
• Online groups, information sessions and events
• Information and support relating to drug-related intimidation
• Referral and signposting to other relevant services
• Wellbeing and self-care initiatives for family members
The aim of the service is to help family members identify their own needs, strengths and goals while providing practical support and guidance during difficult times.
