The Castlerea Town Team was recently recognised by Roscommon County Council at the Roscommon Public Participation Network (PPN) Summer Plenary Meeting & Community Networking Event.
The group was one of 17 community projects honoured on the night, receiving recognition for its commitment to climate action through the successful retrofitting of d’Gaff Community Space under the Community Climate Action Programme.
The project involved major energy-efficiency improvements to the community facility, including external insulation, upgraded windows, solar panels and a heat pump system. These works have significantly reduced the building’s energy consumption and running costs while creating a more sustainable and comfortable space for community groups and organisations that use the facility.
Representing the Castlerea Town Team on the evening were Sen. Gareth Scahill, Secretary, and Breege Callaghan, Treasurer, who accepted the award on behalf of the group.
The recognition highlights the important role local volunteers play in driving positive change within their communities and demonstrates what can be achieved through collaboration, vision and commitment.
Since its establishment in 2015, the Castlerea Town Team has worked on a wide range of projects focused on community development, sustainability, town enhancement and regeneration. The success of the d’Gaff retrofit project is another example of the group’s ongoing efforts to create a more sustainable future for Castlerea.
