An Chistin at the Hub

Late last year the town of Castlerea was delighted to hear the announcement of a planned Food Hub based in the Castlerea Enterprise Hub. Plans have been moving along behind the scenes and work will begin soon on phase 1 of the project.

Here is a little bit more information about An Chistin at The Hub:

What is An Chistin?

An Chistin will be a Training Kitchen, Professional Kitchen and Community Kitchen all in one place.

Why do we need a Food Hub?

There is a shortage of trained chefs & waiting staff in the industry. There is also a lack of certified kitchen facilities for startups and a growing number of people with a desire to learn to cook.  The Enterprise committee along with Roscommon Co Co saw a gap in the market and hence the idea for An Chistin was born.

Why locate it at the Castlerea Enterprise Hub?

The building is a double-height former industrial unit with access to road and separate entrance. It will be part of the building which also houses the Castlerea Enterprise Hub.

What are the 2 phases?

Phase 1: Catering Kitchen with multiple training positions, Classroom setting, Mezzanine level for rentable space office space for new start-ups.

Phase 2: Separate incubation units for food start-up businesses

Once complete what does it hope to achieve?

  • Chef training
  • Serving Staff training
  • Up-Skilling
  • Refresher courses
  • Class Room setting
  • Hire kitchen space for food testing
  • Certified food safe area will be available
  • Space for start up to experiment and develop new products
  • Business support and mentoring
  • Children’s cooking lessons
  • Group cooking parties/lessons
  • Chef demonstration events
  • Pre-college food skills

We hope that gives you a little more information on this great facility. You can contact Brian on 0867908979 or Benny on 0863664603 if you have any further questions.
