Castlerea parkrun’s inaugural event took place on a beautiful sunny spring morning on April 15th 2017. Patricia Buckley was the run director with an enthusiastic group of volunteers rearing to go. Everyone involved went above and beyond to ensure that everything ran smoothly on Saturday morning and their hard work paid off. 93 participants took part on the day, of whom 73 were first timers, with many parkrun tourists lending their support. A special mention to Sarah Towey, Deirdre Parnell and Adrian Lyons who travelled from Lough Key on their way to a 10k event later in the day. Claremorris, Tralee, Tymon, Malahide and Knocknacarra parkruns were also represented.
The were 5 parkrunners who had completed over 100 parkruns. Notably Des Husin who completed his 261st run and doing it in style as he was 3rd person home. Well done to you all. It was great to see so many of you attending your first parkrun and we hope you were bitten by the running bug. As parkrun is a weekly event be sure to bring a friend and enjoy the benefits of walking or running every Saturday morning at 9.30am. For the weekend that was in it, all finishers were rewarded with a well deserved Easter Egg, sponsored by Patricia’s Montessori and Afterschool club, music on the start line by Mark Buckley from The White Cakes and all over seen silently by Rob Partridge, from parkrun Ireland.
A final thank you, to Harmac Medical and HSE for funding the start up of this event locally and Benny’s Deli for providing the tea and scones for our post-run meeting.
