Breakout for Hospice


BREAKOUT FOR HOSPICE takes place this coming Saturday, 20th April. This is going to be a magnificent day with something for the whole family. Check out the full schedule of events below. And remember, all proceeds raised on the day go directly to funding the building of the new Hospice in Roscommon.

09:30 – Castlerea parkrun & parkwalk.

The morning kickstarts at 9.30am with the weekly parkrun & parkwalk. This is a timed 5k suitable for all fitness levels – you can run, walk or jog at your own pace. You can register on Or for more information check out the Castlerea parkrun Facebook page at

11:00 – Charity Cycle 120k/70k/15k Route options.

There are 3 routes on the day – 120km & 70km starting at 11am, and a 15km family route starting at 2.30pm. Registration opens at 9am on the day in the Castlerea Enterprise Hub (F45 AC96 ). Prices are €30 for Cycling Ireland members and for non-Cycling Ireland members it is €35 for 120km and 70km route. 15km Family route is €20 for Cycling Ireland members and €25 for non-Cycling Ireland members. 11:00 – Easter Egg Hunt

The annual Easter Egg Hunt is taking place at the Fairy Village in the Demesne. You can enter via The Square and the meeting point will be at the thatched cottage in the Fairy Village. Entry fee is €5 or there is a family ticket for €20. This is a fun event for all the family.

12:00 – Family Fun Day in The Hub & Somers Park

An exciting Family Fun Day with special guests the Garda Air Support Unit, Mounted Horse Unit and Canine Units. There will also be face painting with Fierce Fun Faces – Face Painting, a Go-Kart track, bouncy castles, BBQ plus lots more fun. Refreshments will be served in the Castlerea Enterprise Hub to all those participating in the cycle on their return. There will be a number of volunteers available on the day with collection buckets so please donate what you can.

19:00 – Charity Football Match

A novel GAA Football match which is taking place at 7pm in St. Kevin’s GAA pitch where members of An Garda Síochána will line out against members of the Irish Prison Service to see who will become the Breakout for Hospice 2019 Champions! Member of the Roscommon County Team will also be in attendance so its a great chance for young footballers to meet their heroes. There will be donation buckets at the gates on the way in to please give what you can.

21:30 – Social Event & Auction

To finish off this fantastic day there will be a social night and auction in Hesters Golden Eagle. There are some amazing items up for auction including:

  • Signed Connaught Rugby Jersey
  • Signed Ireland Rugby Jersey
  • Signed Manchester United Jersey
  • Signed Roscommon Jersey
  • Framed Manchester United Winning Champions League Jersey (1999) with players signatures on insert
  • Signed Shay Given Gloves from his final Ireland Game
  • A Berg Kart
  • Heavy Duty Picnic Bench made by Irish Prison Service

Plus they have some amazing raffle prizes on the night also. There will be music and finger food also. This is a night not to be missed.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Our Annual Easter Hunt is taking place this coming Saturday, 20th April from 11am – 1pm. It takes place at the Fairy Village in the Demesne. Entry is €5 per child (Family €20) with all proceeds go to Break Out For Hospice. Each child will receive an Easter Egg upon completion. And if you still have energy after the hunt the Family Fun Day is kicking off down at The Hub from 12 noon with the Garda Helicopter, Canine and Horses, Go Kart Track, Facepainting, BBQ plus lots more fun.

Thank you to Patricia’s Montessori & After School Club and Castlerea Town Team for once again organising the event and to the Break Out For Hospice Committee for providing all the yummy Easter Eggs.

Darkness Into Light Castlerea 2019

We are delighted to see Darkness Into Light is once again taking place in Castlerea.

Last year 354 people registered to attend the Castlerea event and raised €8,066 to support Pieta House vital services. Your support of this event means that they are able to deliver vital programs in this local area.

“Strictly for the Birds”

Cloonbonniffe Drama Group present “Strictly for the Birds” a three act hilarious comedy on Thursday 28th, Friday 29th and Sunday 31st March in the Trinity Arts Centre, Castlerea at 8.30pm nightly. Entry is €10 and payable at the door.

Remembrance Mass

There will be a special Remembrance Mass and Liturgy on Friday, 30th November at 7.30pm in St. Patrick’s Church, Castlerea remembering all deceased parishioners especially those who have died since last November. All bereaved families and relatives are particularly welcome to this celebration.

Castlerea St. Kevin’s GAA Club Celebrations


Castlerea St. Kevin’s GAA Club are celebrating their Golden Jubilee Anniversary and the Official Opening of their New Pitch and Stand. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the fun.

Friday, 26th October:

Bingo, 8.30pm, The Clubhouse. With Prize Money of €3,500 on the night.

Saturday, 27th October:

All Day Underage Football Blitz. U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 with neighbouring clubs.

Sunday, 28th October:

12 noon: Ladies Football Game in O’Rourke Park. Tarmon/Castlerea v Trien/Cloonbonniffe

2 pm: Blessing of New Stand by Fr. John McManus P.P. followed by the official opening of New Stand by Marie Hickey, President LGFA.

Move to New Pitch led by Castlerea Brass & Reed Band

2.30 pm: Blessing of New Pitch by Fr. John McManus P.P followed by official opening of New Pitch by John Prenty, Secretary Connacht Council.

Followed by Men’s Game: 2003 Team v 2018 Team on New Pitch

4 pm: Refreshments in the O’Rourke Centre

5 pm: Presentation to 1968 Championship Winning Teams

7 pm: Music with DJ Tosh


Castlerea Musical Soceity 50th Anniversary Celebrations


This year, 2018, marks the 50th Anniversary of the founding of Castlerea Musical Society and to celebrate, the Society will host a Black Tie Ball in The Abbey Hotel, Roscommon on Saturday 17th November 2018.

They are hoping to make this a very special night with photos, video and stories from various shows over the past 50 years. This night of celebration is for anyone who was ever involved with Castlerea Musical Society, their family and friends.

They will kick off the celebration with a Drinks Reception at 7.00pm, followed by a 4-Course Meal. Music on the night will be provided by an 8-piece band, The Wondertones, followed by a Sing-Song into the early hours of the morning.

It is hoped that as many past and present Society members as possible will join them on the night, but the event is open to all. To book your tickets, please phone or text our Treasurer, Connie Gannon, on 087-9610283 after 5.00pm on any day.

Tickets for the Black Tie Ball are €50 each.

The hotel will be offering a special rate for people who may want accommodation.
