A committee formed in Loughlynn are proposing to erect a monument at Shannon’s Cross, Loughglynn, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, the scene where Detective Garda John Morley and Garda Henry Byrne were fatally wounded after a Bank Robbery in Ballaghaderreen Co. Roscommon on the 7th of July 1980. John was aged 37 and Henry was 29 years old when they were shot and killed in the line of duty.

Donations are now being accepted for the Memorial and Commemorative Booklet marking the lives of Detective Garda John Morley and Garda Henry Byrne. Donations for this project can be made to the Bank of Ireland, Castlerea to the account named ‘John Morley/Henry Byrne Memorial’.
