Castlerea sisters Lisa and Aoife O’Rourke are set to represent Team Ireland at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool this week, as they continue to fly the flag for their hometown on the international stage.
Lisa, boxing in the 70kg category, is part of a strong Irish women’s team and will face Shirleidis Orozco Martinez of Colombia in Sunday’s Evening Session. Lisa received a bye to the Last 16, a testament to her growing reputation after her World title win in 2022.

Her sister Aoife, already a double Olympian and four-time continental champion, also received a first-round bye and is through to the Last 16. She will take on Monika Langerova of the Czech Republic on Saturday.
This year’s championship is historic, bringing together 500 boxers from 60 federations, with men and women competing for World gold side by side for the very first time.
📍 Venue: M&S Bank Arena, Liverpool
📅 Dates: September 4th – 14th, 2025
📺 Watch live: Eurovision Sport
We wish both Lisa and Aoife the very best of luck as they step into the ring once again. No matter the outcome, Castlerea is immensely proud of their achievements, determination, and the inspiration they continue to give to young athletes at home and across Ireland.
